What an exciting time it is for you and your family! Welcoming in a little bundle of joy to love and nurture! Like most couples these days you’ve fallen in love with newborn photography and can’t wait get beautiful portraits of your little one. With so many new photographers popping up overnight, It has become increasingly concerning to us that most never think about what we believe are four must haves from the photographer you choose. So whether you book with us or not make sure your photographer has the tools listed below to safely pose and capture beautiful images of your little one.
1. SAFETY- The safety of your newborn should be priority #1, and if you’re a parent like me, you’ve done your homework and purchased the safest products your little one will require. Choosing a newborn photographer should be no different. Make sure that the newborn photographer you choose has the knowledge on how to properly and safely pose and care for your little one.
2. EXPERIENCE/TRAINING- This industry has exploded in popularity over the last several years, and so has the desire to become a professional photographer. Becoming a professional photographer isn’t as easy as it looks, and becoming a professional newborn photographer is even harder. It’s one thing to know the proper camera and lighting settings, but learning to safely wrap and pose a newborn takes a lot of training and experience. Here are a few questions you need to ask to make sure your bundle of joy is in good hands.
How long you been a newborn photographer?
How many newborns have to photographed?
Where did you get your training?
Do you specialize in newborn photography? Please keep in mind that most established newborn photographers will only specialize in newborns/children/families.
3. INSURED/LICENSED- The photographer you choose should be licensed and insured. Would you really feel comfortable taking your newborn to a photographer who isn’t? Heaven forbid an injury occur during a session and your photographer not have proper insurance.
4. INVESTMENT- There is a vast difference in what photographers are charging for newborn portraits these days, and It's very tempting to book with a lower priced photographer. Before you do I encourage you to ask yourself why are they so much less? It’s more than likely because the three tips we’ve listed above do not apply to them. It’s easy for a photographer who hasn’t invested in the training and does not have the experience to under value their work.
